The palace eunuch was seen running towards the palace. The Seja is asleep and when he wakes up, he finds the other side of the bed empty so he calls for the Bingoong. He receives no reply so he calls for the servant waiting outside. There was no answer either, forcing him to step outside. At the door, he meets the eunuch with a look of despair on his face. The prince asks him what's wrong but the eunuch wouldn't answer. They run as fast as they could towards Buyong Pond. He sees the Bingoong floating in the middle of the lake. He tries to go near her but the soldiers arrive in time to stop him. He struggles and cries in despair at what happened to his wife.
The scene is brought back to when the Seja was still a child. The King and the Prince are seated with the ministers, talking about the prospect of marriage. When asked about his preference, the Prince says that he wants a beautiful bride so that he would want to see her everyday. Everyone laughs fondly at his statement.

Bu Yong is running happily towards their home. She tells her sister Hwa Yong the news about the Seja looking for a bride and that their father is rumored to be the father-in-law of the future king. She says that the Bingoong would most definitely be Hwa Yong, and Hwa Yong seems to be very pleased with this. They both imagine of the time when they would be in the palace.
The sisters are called for by their parents. They tell them of the news and reminds them to act accordingly. Hwa Yong was eagerly listening to her parents but was greatly disappointed when their father announces that Bu Yong's name will be submitted on the eligible maidens list instead of hers. She cries but wasn't able to refuse when her father asks her to help Bu Yong in preparation for entering the palace.
The present time shows Park Ha eating dessert happily on a restaurant with her dad. She's introduced to her future stepmom and stepsister, Se Na.
Now they're at home and Se Na was being hit on her leg with a stick while Park Ha is crying. She was being scolded for not looking after Park Ha while their parents are out working. It turns out that Park Ha tried to cook ramen and almost burned the house down.
The next day, Park Ha and Se Na are at a supplies store. Se Na shoplifts and put everything inside Park Ha's backpack. The store staff notices this and asks them to open the bag. Se Na refuses but the staff forcibly gets the bag and spilled its contents. Se Na faces Park Ha and scolds her for stealing. Park Ha cries, saying she doesn't know anything.
On another day, they are at a grocery store and Se Na was doing the same thing. Park Ha's father sees this and he hits Se Na on the leg this time.
The next day, Se Na opens the back of a truck where Park Ha is sleeping. She hears the front door closing, indicating that the driver is back. She shouts to Park Ha to wake her up but then stops halfway. She thinks for a bit then decides to leave Park Ha there with a carton of milk. The truck starts moving. Bu Yong brings dried persimmons to her sister who is ironing her clothes for the selection. She tries to feed Hwa Yong a piece but the elder tells her to eat first. They argue and Bu Yong drops the persimmon on the ground. Hwa Yong stands to get it but she trips on her dress and burns Bu Yong's face with the iron. The parents panic but decides to enter Hwa Yong's name on the list instead.
The wedding day arrives. Hwa Yong becomes the Bingoong while Bu Yong is left in their home. She cries in their garden and touches her face which is now covered with a cloth.
Several years pass, Bu Yong is making an embroidered handkerchief with a peony and a yellow butterfly. Hwa Yong gives it to the prince, claiming it as her work. The prince utters a phrase but Hwa Yong doesn't know how to answer. She looks at Bu Yong for help so Bu Yong answers for her. The attention of the prince is shifted to Bu Yong and they exchanged a few more lines. Hwa Yong tries to get the attention of the prince back by asking to go look at the flowers at Buyong Pond.
While walking, the prince gives Bu Yong a riddle, saying he'll give her a reward if she could answer it in two days. They continue walking while Bu Yong looks at her sister and the prince talking happily.
Time is brought back to when the Bingoong just died. The prince orders that the princess be wrapped completely in silk and to close their sleeping quarters. He swears find the person who killed the princess and tear him to pieces and punish everyone involved. He looks at the handkerchief while crying. His tear drops on the butterfly and it comes to life. The butterfly flies away to the skies.

The yellow butterfly flutters near Tae Yong. He tries to touch it but it flies away and landed on Park Ha's shoulder, who is now working at a fruit stand in New York. Tae Yong smiled upon seeing this and he drew Park Ha at the back of a postcard. Some kids steal apples from Park Ha's stand but the kids run and makes fun of her. She gets an apple and throws it at them but instead hits Tae Yong on the forehead. He falls off the bench. Tae Moo arrives and helps him get up. Park Ha goes to him to apologize too. Tae Moo points out that the kids are stealing more apples so Park Ha leaves to go after them.
Tae Yong and Tae Moo drinks at a bar where Park Ha works too. Tae Yong is obviously attracted to Park Ha and Tae Moo notices this. He goes to the washroom and finds out Park Ha's day off. He tells Tae Yong about it but the guy isn't brave enough to ask Park Ha out. He instead invites Tae Moo to join him on a boat trip to do some sketching.
Park Ha, on the other hand, receives a call that her father has finally been found. She happily goes to tell her friend that she's going back to Korea.
Tae Yong and Tae Moo are on the boat, with Tae Yong doing some sketching. Tae Moo talks about taking over going back to Seoul to run the company but Tae Yong refuses, saying that Tae Moo and his dad can do that instead. Tae Moo snaps and says that he can't do that since his dad is an illegitimate son of the chairman's husband. Tae Yong gets mad too and he pushes Tae Moo. Tae Moo punches him, making him hit his head on the boat rail and causing him to fall into the water. Tae Moo grabs the lifesaver but then stops midway and instead wipes everything clean on the boat. He gets Tae Yong's phone and throws it out into the water as well. He dives into the ocean and left the boat.
Tae Moo goes back to Korea, with Se Na meeting him at the airport. Coincidentally, Park Ha arrived at the same time.
Tae Yong's grandma almost faints upon hearing the news of her grandson missing. According to Tae Moo, he couldn't get in touch with Tae Yong while in New York for five days. They decided to send someone to the US to investigate this matter.
Park Ha is at the police station but then she receives the sad news about her father's death. She goes home to find her dad in a wake and she cries in despair. Her stepmom and Se Na enters to see her crying. Se Na is suddenly nervous when she figures out that it's Park Ha. They find out that she couldn't remember anything because she was involved in a car accident. Se Na sighs in relief upon confirming this.

The prince tells everyone that the princess was murdered but they weren't convinced. Hwa Yong's father says there was no motive. She most probably slipped while talking a walk the previous night. Seja still wouldn't let go of the discussion. That's when the captain of the palace army enters to say that the princess' attendants supported the story that the princess slipped, leaving the prince with no choice but to take matters into his own hands.
He gathers three people for this pursuit. Man Bo, a very knowledgeable person but of low class; Yong Sul, an expert swordsman; and Chi San, an informant.
They recall everything that happened the night of the murder. He and the princess shared dinner and Bu Yong came to the palace to answer the riddle he gave her. He sleeps and wakes up at dawn only to find the Bingoong missing.
Based on all the information they gathered, they assumed that the princess was a victim of arsenic poisoning. Chi San says he found a witness. As they rode horses to go to the said witness, they were attacked by ninjas. Seeing as there's too many of them, the group tried to escape. They eventually ended on the edge of a cliff and made the horses jump to the other side. And just like how the moon disappears because of an eclipse, they too vanished.

It has been two years since Park Ha got back in Korea. She's at the market helping her stepmom tidy up. Se Na arrives to pick her mom up, leaving Park Ha to do the rest by herself. She goes home to her rooftop apartment only to find four people in ancient garments sitting in her living room. She drops her glass which seemed to awaken the group from their trance. They immediately assume a defensive stance to protect the prince. Park Ha grabs a frying pan to protect herself.
